Which Fletching boost to use
Fletching has a short list, and one item does nearly all the work: the dragonfruit pie. It gives a flat +4, it trades on the Grand Exchange, and each of its two bites heals 10 Hitpoints. If your gap is four levels or fewer, buy a few pies and stop reading.
A +5 needs a spicy stew with three doses of orange spice. Orange spice covers the production skills, Fletching included, and each stew rolls somewhere between -5 and +5. Eat, check the skill tab, eat again if the roll was poor. The stew is untradeable and needs Evil Dave's part of Recipe for Disaster finished, plus a cat to hunt hell-rats for the spice.
The Fletching cape adds +1, which only matters if you are already 99 and want to show off.
| Boost | Levels | Source | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dragonfruit pie | +4 | Grand Exchange or 73 Cooking | Two bites, 10 Hitpoints each |
| Spicy stew (orange spice) | -5 to +5 | Recipe for Disaster (Evil Dave) | Random roll, untradeable |
| Fletching cape | +1 | 99 Fletching | No practical use below 99 |
Levels worth boosting for
A boosted level lets you fletch the item but never lets you wield it. These are the common targets, with the lowest real level that reaches each one using a dragonfruit pie.
| Item | Fletching needed | With a pie from |
|---|---|---|
| Toxic blowpipe | 78 | 74 |
| Magic shortbow | 80 | 76 |
| Rune dart | 81 | 77 |
| Amethyst arrow | 82 | 78 |
| Dragon bolts | 84 | 80 |
| Magic longbow | 85 | 81 |
| Dragon arrow | 90 | 86 |
| Amethyst dart | 90 | 86 |
| Dragon javelin | 92 | 88 |
| Dragon dart | 95 | 91 |
The two that people ask about most are dragon darts at 95 and the 90 jump for dragon arrows and amethyst darts. Darts and arrows are made in sets, so one pie covers a lot of actions if your materials are already in the inventory.
Getting the most out of each pie
Visible boosts drain one level per minute, and the drain timer keeps running whether or not you are boosted, so the first level can go within seconds. Stand at the bank with everything withdrawn, eat, then start. When the boost slips from +4 to +3, eat the second bite: a new boost is always calculated from your base level, so it resets you to the full +4. Boosts never add together, so the cape and a pie still give +4, not +5.
Accounts with 55 Prayer and the Chambers of Xeric scroll unlocked can slow the drain to one level every 90 seconds. It needs to be on for 15 seconds before it takes effect.
Ironmen and the dragonfruit supply
Dragonfruit grows on dragonfruit trees, which need 81 Farming and hold up to six fruit at a time. Cooking the pie needs 73. That is a long way round for a temporary boost, so ironmen who need a single level for a diary task often use the stew instead.
To see how many actions you have left before a target level, use the Fletching calculator. The 1-99 Fletching guide covers the fastest and cheapest routes, and Fletching money making shows which items sell above their materials today. The same pie trick works for other skills on the OSRS Crafting boost page.
