Fletching calc: darts, bolts and bows at today's prices

Profit each is the value of what you make minus the materials, at current Grand Exchange mid prices and before the 2% GE tax. Negative numbers are a cost. Greyed rows need a higher level than you have.

How the fletching calculator counts

Rows that make ammunition count single items, so a dart row shows darts, not sets. Bow rows count each step separately: cutting a log into an unstrung bow is one action, stringing it is another, and both give xp. The cost column uses today's price of the logs, tips, feathers or bow strings against the finished item. There is no Fletching xp outfit, so the bonus selector stays on none.

Use the category chips to split darts, arrows, bolts, bows and the odd items like ballistae and grapples. Fletching is a members skill, so on a free account the table is a planning tool for when you subscribe.

Attaching feathers to dart tips makes up to ten darts per action, so dart xp per hour is limited by how fast you can click, not by banking. It is the fastest xp in the skill and the most expensive: rune and dragon darts cost a lot per xp because the tips are dear and the finished darts sell for close to the tip price. Fletching darts does not need The Tourist Trap; only smithing the tips does.

At 576,682 darts from 81 to 99, rune darts are a large bill. Feathers are cheap; the tips set the cost, so watch the tip price rather than the dart price when deciding.

Bows: slow, cheap and often profitable

Bows trade speed for cost. Cutting a log is one action per bow and you bank every 27, so xp per hour is a fraction of darts, but cut and strung bows often sell close to or above the log price. Strung yew and magic longbows also have alch values that keep a floor under their price, which is why the high alchemy list and fletchers watch the same items. A fletching knife cuts bow fletching from 3 ticks to 2.

Bolts, broad ammo and the middle ground

Broad bolts (55) and broad arrows (52) need an unlock bought with Slayer reward points, and in return they give quick xp with smaller losses than darts. Broad bolts give 3 xp each and are made ten at a time. Amethyst broad bolts (76) add amethyst tips for 10.6 xp a bolt. These rows tend to sit between darts and bows on gp per xp, which makes them the usual pick for players who want speed without the dart bill.

Vale Totems

Vale Totems in the Auburn Valley (Varlamore) is a looping Fletching activity from 20 Fletching after its miniquest. You carve bows or shields from the same wood at totem sites and ents leave loot at each finished totem on top of the xp. It does not appear as one action in the table, but if you plan to fletch bows anyway, check it in the Fletching training guide before cutting thousands at a bank.

Questions players ask

Is it faster to fletch darts or bows?

Darts, by a wide margin. You make ten darts per action and the speed is limited only by your clicking, while bows are one per action with banking every inventory. Darts cost far more per xp, though, so most players use bows or broad bolts on a budget and darts when speed is worth the gold.

How many rune darts do I need from 81 to 99 Fletching?

Rune darts give 18.8 xp each, so it takes 576,682 darts from the start of level 81 to 99. That means the same number of rune dart tips and feathers. Dragon darts at 95 give 25 xp each and need fewer, but the tips cost more.

What is the cheapest way to train Fletching?

Cutting and stringing longbows, usually maples from 55 and yews from 70, often costs close to nothing per xp and can profit when bow prices are high. The calculator sorts every method by gp per xp at today's prices, so check it before buying logs.

How many magic longbows to 99 Fletching?

Cutting and stringing each give 91.5 xp, so a finished magic longbow is worth 183 xp. From the start of level 85 you need 53,421 logs cut and strung to reach 99. Cutting only, without stringing, doubles the log count.

Do I need members for Fletching?

Yes. Fletching is a members-only skill, so you cannot train it on a free account. Quests help once you subscribe: Animal Magnetism, Big Chompy Bird Hunting and Zogre Flesh Eaters give 3,262 Fletching xp between them, enough for level 18 before you buy a single log.
