Milestones worth knowing
| Level | Total xp | Share of 99 |
|---|---|---|
| 50 | 101,333 | 0.8% |
| 60 | 273,742 | 2.1% |
| 70 | 737,627 | 5.7% |
| 80 | 1,986,068 | 15.2% |
| 85 | 3,258,594 | 25.0% |
| 90 | 5,346,332 | 41.0% |
| 92 | 6,517,253 | 50.0% |
| 96 | 9,684,577 | 74.3% |
| 99 | 13,034,431 | 100% |
Look at the right-hand column. Level 70 feels like a big milestone, yet it is under 6% of the way to 99. Level 85 is a quarter, 92 is half and 96 is three quarters. Most of the grind sits in the last ten levels.
Why 92 is half of 99
The xp needed for each level grows by roughly 10% a level, which means it doubles about every seven levels once you are past 30 or so. Seven levels below 99 is 92, so 92 needs about half the xp of 99: 6,517,253 against 13,034,431. The same rule works lower down. Level 85 is about half of 92, and 78 is about half of 85.
That doubling is also why early levels feel so fast. Level 10 needs 1,154 xp, which is where Hitpoints starts on a new account. Level 30 needs 13,363, a figure many skills pass within an hour or two of focused training.
How the curve is built
The game adds up a small amount for every level below your target. For each level L, the amount is L + 300 × 2 to the power (L ÷ 7), rounded down. Sum those for every level below your target, divide by four and round down, and you get the xp in the table. The 2 to the power (L ÷ 7) part is where the doubling every seven levels comes from. The L part only matters at very low levels.
Virtual levels and 200M
The skills tab stops at 99, but xp keeps counting up to the cap of 200,000,000 in each skill. Players track progress past 99 as virtual levels, using the same formula:
| Virtual level | Total xp | Times 99 |
|---|---|---|
| 100 | 14,391,160 | 1.10 |
| 110 | 38,737,661 | 2.97 |
| 120 | 104,273,167 | 8.00 |
| 126 | 188,884,740 | 14.49 |
Virtual 120 is eight times the xp of 99, which shows how fast the curve keeps climbing. 200M sits just past virtual 126, and once a skill reaches it no more xp is counted.
Maxing numbers
There are 24 skills now that Sailing is out. Getting all of them to 99 means 312,826,344 xp in total and a total level of 2,376, the current maximum. 200M in every skill would be 4.8 billion xp. If you want the time and cost for one skill, plug your numbers into the OSRS skill calculator, and for a route by level band, see the training guides.
To see where your own account sits on the table, look your name up on the OSRS hiscores. If you are pushing combat stats, the combat level calculator shows which skill moves your combat level for the least xp. The newest skill has its own route in the Sailing training guide.
