Mining amethyst
Amethyst needs 92 Mining and gives 240 xp per piece. It only comes from amethyst crystals in the Mining Guild. The southern section is open to anyone with the level, and the larger western cave needs the elite Falador Diary. Expert mining gloves give the crystals a save against depleting, and the Varrock armour 4 double ore effect works here too.
It is slow and very low effort, which is why plenty of high-level players leave it running on a second screen. The Mining training guide compares it with faster but busier methods, and the mining calculator shows how many crystals stand between you and your target.
What to chisel it into
| Product | Crafting | Made per amethyst |
|---|---|---|
| Bolt tips | 83 | 15 |
| Arrowtips | 85 | 15 |
| Javelin heads | 87 | 5 |
| Dart tips | 89 | 8 |
Each cut gives 60 Crafting xp. Bolt tips usually lose the most against raw amethyst, while dart tips hold their value best, so check their current prices in the crafting calculator before cutting a full inventory.
Who buys amethyst and what moves the price
Buyers are Crafting trainers, fletchers making amethyst arrows and darts, and rangers who want ammo between rune and dragon. Amethyst arrows are the strongest arrow a magic shortbow can fire, which keeps steady demand for them.
Supply comes from a fairly small group of 92+ miners, and it barely changes from week to week. Prices drift up when a new update makes amethyst ammo more useful and down when dragon arrows or rune arrows get cheaper. High alchemy pays 2,340 coins, a useful floor against crashes.
