Profit each is the value of what you make minus the materials, at current Grand Exchange mid prices and before the 2% GE tax. Negative numbers are a cost. Greyed rows need a higher level than you have.

Reading the crafting calculator

Every row is one item made. Cost per action is the price of the materials (hides plus thread, an uncut gem, an orb plus a battlestaff, a molten glass) minus what the finished item sells for. Gp per xp is that cost divided by the xp, and total cost is what the whole goal will run you at today's prices. Crafting has no xp-boosting outfit, so the bonus selector stays on none.

The category chips split leather, gems, glass, jewellery and battlestaves. On a free account switch off members items: gold jewellery, gem cutting and leather are open to free players, d'hide bodies and battlestaves are not.

The xp per hour climbs steeply once d'hide bodies open, because each body is one quick action worth 186 to 258 xp. Battlestaves give less per action but can cost less per xp, especially if you buy noted battlestaves from Zaff in Varrock with the diary unlocks. Run both through the calculator around level 63 before switching.

Molten glass and giant seaweed

Glass is the slow, cheap end of the skill. Blowing unpowered orbs from 46 is close to break-even and only needs one item type, which is why it suits budget and ironman accounts. The calculator's glass rows tell you the glass needed; this table shows how much sand turns into that glass.

Superglass Make also gives 78 Magic xp per cast, so it trains two skills at once. A giant seaweed counts as six regular seaweed. The 3 giant seaweed to 18 sand ratio beats 2 to 12 because of the extra glass it produces, provided you pick up what drops to the floor when your inventory is full. To grow your own seaweed, use the farming calc; for the casting side, the Superglass Make money maker shows whether selling the glass beats blowing it.

Cheapest, fastest or profitable

Fastest is d'hide bodies from 63, then black bodies from 84. Cheapest is glassblowing, or gem cutting at levels where the cut gem sells for close to the uncut price. Profit comes from a handful of rows that change week to week: certain battlestaves, some jewellery, and amethyst tips from 83. The calculator's profit column is the quickest way to see which ones are positive today, and the Crafting money making list ranks them by gp per hour.

The Crafting Guild near Rimmington (40 Crafting and a brown apron) has gold, silver and clay rocks, potter's wheels and a tanner for dragonhide, and its bank chest opens with the hard Falador diary. Questions players ask

How many black d'hide bodies do I need from 84 to 99 Crafting?

Black d'hide bodies give 258 xp each, so 39,082 bodies take you from the start of 84 to 99. Each body uses three black dragon leather, which comes to 117,246 leather plus thread. The calculator gives the exact figure from your current xp and the total cost at today's prices.

What is the fastest way to train Crafting in OSRS?

Cutting gems up to the 50s, then dragonhide bodies from 63 to 99. Each body is a single quick action worth between 186 and 258 xp depending on colour, so xp per hour is far higher than glassblowing or jewellery. It also costs more, so check gp per xp before you commit.

How do I calculate molten glass for Crafting?

Set your target, filter to glass and read the actions needed for the item you plan to blow, which equals the glass you need. Divide by about 1.6 if you make it with Superglass Make and the 3 giant seaweed to 18 sand ratio, or by 1 if you use a furnace, to get the buckets of sand.

Is Crafting profitable to train?

Parts of it are, though rarely the fastest parts. Some battlestaves, jewellery and amethyst tips can sell for more than their materials, and molten glass made with Superglass Make often sells for more than the sand and seaweed. Dragonhide bodies usually cost a little per xp.

How many unpowered orbs do I need for 99 Crafting?

From level 46, where you can first blow them, it takes 246,980 unpowered orbs at 52.5 xp each. That is a lot of glass, so most players only blow orbs as a low-cost stretch or mix it with Superglass Make, which gives Crafting xp of its own.
