How farming numbers work
Farming xp is paid in pieces: some for planting, some for checking a grown tree's health, some for each item you harvest. The calculator adds those into one figure per crop, so a magic tree row means one sapling planted and checked. Cost is the sapling or seed itself. Compost and the gardener's protection payment are not included, so add them on if you use them. Herb and fruit tree rows include the value of the expected harvest, which is why they can show a profit.
The bonus selector covers the farmer's outfit from the Tithe Farm: 0.4% for the hat, 0.8% for the jacket or shirt, 0.6% for the trousers, 0.2% for the boots, and 2.5% in total with the set bonus.
Tree xp by tree
| Tree | Level | Growth time | XP per tree (plant and check) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Willow | 30 | 4h 0m | 1,481.5 |
| Teak | 35 | 74h 40m | 7,325 |
| Maple | 45 | 5h 20m | 3,448.4 |
| Yew | 60 | 6h 40m | 7,150.9 |
| Palm | 68 | 16h 0m | 10,509.6 |
| Calquat | 72 | 21h 20m | 12,516.5 |
| Magic | 75 | 8h 0m | 13,913.8 |
| Dragonfruit | 81 | 16h 0m | 17,895 |
| Celastrus | 85 | 13h 20m | 14,400.5 |
| Redwood | 90 | 106h 40m | 22,680 |
Growth time is what limits you, not cost. A run of six magic trees, six dragonfruit trees, a calquat and a celastrus is worth about 217,800 xp, which means roughly 50 full runs from level 81 to 99. Fruit trees take 16 hours and magic trees 8, so most players do a full run once or twice a day and plant hardwoods and redwoods when passing.
Magic trees alone from 75 to 99 would take 850 saplings, and each costs a sapling plus a payment of coconuts to the gardener. The magic logs you can chop from a grown tree recover a little of that.
Herb runs: the profit side
Herbs grow in 80 minutes and give modest xp, but they are the main way Farming pays for itself. Use ultracompost on every patch; with magic secateurs it raises the yield and lowers the chance of disease. The profit column shows which seed is worth planting today, which often is not the most expensive one. Players with Herblore goals can feed the harvest into the herb calculator; snapdragon, ranarr and torstol are the seeds people argue about most, and snapdragon is a good one to watch.
Giant seaweed calculator
Seaweed patches sit underwater off Fossil Island. Each harvest yields at least three giant seaweed, more with ultracompost and a higher Farming level, and every giant seaweed counts as six regular seaweed for Superglass Make.
| Giant seaweed step | Figure |
|---|---|
| Farming level to plant spores | 23 |
| Patches | 2, underwater off Fossil Island |
| Growth time | About 40 minutes |
| Farming xp | 19 per spore planted, 21 per seaweed picked |
| Molten glass per giant seaweed (3 seaweed + 18 sand) | About 9.6 if you pick up the overflow |
To work out seaweed for a Crafting goal, take the glass you need from the crafting calc and divide by about 9.6. Seaweed spores come from the same underwater area, so the patches can keep themselves supplied.
Tithe Farm and Hespori
The Tithe Farm (34 Farming) gives xp per fruit plus a bonus per 75 delivered: golovanova seeds from 34, bologano from 54, logavano from 74. It is slow compared with tree runs, but it costs nothing and its points buy the farmer's outfit, a seed box, a herb sack and the gricoller's can. Hespori (65) grows from a seed and is fought as a boss for anima seeds and the bottomless bucket. More on its drops is on the Hespori page, and a full level plan is in the Farming training guide.
