What a bond does
A bond is membership you can buy or sell for gold. Redeem one and you get 14 days of members. Redeeming several at once gives slightly more time than using them one by one:
| Bonds redeemed | Membership |
|---|---|
| 1 | 14 days |
| 2 | 29 days |
| 3 | 45 days |
| 20 | 12 months |
A bond can also skip the 28-day wait on a display name change. Your bond pouch holds up to 100 bonds, tradeable or not, and you can redeem either kind.
Tradeable and untradeable bonds
Bonds bought from Jagex with real money arrive tradeable. The moment a bond is traded or bought on the Grand Exchange, it becomes untradeable for the new owner. Turning it back into a tradeable bond costs 10% of a tradeable bond's GE value in coins.
That fee is why buying a bond and selling it straight back almost always loses money. Ironmen can buy bonds too, through a separate ironman-only screen on the Grand Exchange.
What moves the bond price
Every bond sold is real money swapped for gold, and every buyer is paying for membership with gold. The price rises when membership costs more in real money, and when big releases bring lapsed players back and want members, as Sailing did. The OSRS player count chart is a decent early signal of that demand.
It eases when gold gets easier to make, because the same membership then costs fewer hours of play. If you are funding membership in-game, compare the bond price with your hourly rate from the money making list to see how many hours each 14 days really costs.
The buy limit is 100 every four hours, but each GE slot can only hold one bond, so large orders take several slots. Bonds cannot be alched, so there is no floor price, and they are a poor flipping pick once the conversion fee is counted.
